This new automated logistics hub features one of the largest high-density cold storage warehouses in Romania. Developed by the E80 Group, the facility enables a significant reduction of the carbon footprint across the entire logistics and storage process.
With the inauguration of the new logistics center in Hălchiu, Brașov County, Fabrica de Lapte Brașov – the company behind the Olympus brand and one of the largest dairy producers in Romania and the wider region—sets a new benchmark in the logistics sector. The project, made possible through an investment exceeding €40 million, covers a total surface of 13,500 m² and is designed to optimize logistics operations.
A High-Density Cold Storage Facility
Among its many features, the new center hosts one of Romania’s largest high-density cold storage warehouses, designed to significantly reduce energy consumption. With a capacity of more than 32,000 pallets, the warehouse is equipped with advanced temperature control systems (2–4 °C). Fully automated, the system ensures optimal resource utilization while reducing the carbon footprint across the logistics chain.
Athanasios Giannousis, Commercial Director of Olympus Romania, stated:
“Sustainability is a fundamental part of our strategy. The new logistics center allows us to strengthen our position in international markets while ensuring that our products are stored and delivered in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner. We will continue investing in sustainable technologies, providing our customers with top-quality products.”
Dimitrios Kelas, General Manager of Fabrica de Lapte Brașov, added:
“The new logistics center in Brașov County is a strategic investment for Olympus and a significant step toward a more sustainable future. One of our main goals is to reduce our carbon footprint, and this project fully reflects our commitment to implementing sustainable technologies that help protect the environment. From energy reduction to space optimization, every detail has been designed to maximize efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.”
Cutting-Edge Technology
The solution implemented stands out for its efficient use of space. Developed vertically by E80 Group, the new Olympus high-density cold storage warehouse delivers a large capacity with a minimal ground footprint, ranking among the largest of its kind in Romania. Compared to a traditional warehouse of the same capacity, the high-density facility occupies six times less space. This offers a dual environmental benefit: minimizing land use while also reducing the energy required for product management.
Olympus partnered with E80 Group for this pioneering project. The Italian multinational has more than 40 years of experience in designing integrated automated intralogistics solutions for producers and distributors of consumer goods, including beverages, food, and paper products. E80 Group provides both hardware and software solutions for managing temperature-controlled warehouses, enabling optimal product preservation at temperatures ranging from 0–4 °C, and down to –26 °C.
Smart Integrated Logistics Software
“E80 Group develops “smart” advanced factories specifically tailored for the cold chain, ensuring efficient and safe management of temperature-sensitive products.
Designed to respond with flexibility and scalability to the demands of the cold supply chain, our solutions are transforming how food and dairy warehouses operate. With our Smart Integrated Logistics software platform, which manages all intralogistics flows, and our wide range of laser-guided vehicles, we significantly enhance facility efficiency,” said Giuseppe Cassano, Vice President of Sales for Asia, Oceania, and Africa at E80 Group.
The software implemented in Olympus’ systems also ensures compliance with regulations and cheese-aging protocols, further improving production reliability and quality.
A Logistics Hub with International Reach
The new Brașov logistics center will serve both the local market and all international destinations where Olympus dairy products from Romania are exported, including Germany, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
By the end of 2024, the new logistics hub will be fully operational and integrated with the neighboring dairy factory, further strengthening the Group’s position as an industry leader and pioneer in sustainable development. The new facility reflects Hellenic Dairies Group’s long-term commitment to sustainable business practices across all the countries in which it operates.
